Swedish Massage
This is the most popular type of massage. It is generally used for relaxation and relief of tension and stress. It uses less pressure than deep tissue. (on a scale of pressure form 1 - 10 Swedish would fall between 3 - 6, while deep tissue would be between 7 -9). Swedish massage uses five styles of long, flowing strokes to massage. The five basic strokes are effleurage (sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (cross fiber) and vibration/shaking. Swedish massage has shown to be helpful in reducing aches, joint stiffness, and improving function in patients with bodily pain and osteoarthritis of the knee over a period of eight weeks. It has also been shown to be helpful in individuals with poor circulation.

Couples Massage
This service is about relaxing together. Healthy relaxed individuals makes for happier relationships. This can be either either a simply swedish massage, a combination massage or a session customized to suite specific needs. Either way its a romantic decision that is well appreciated and well worth it.

Trigger Point Massage
Trigger points or trigger sites are described as hyper-irritable spots in skeletal muscle that are associated with  small contraction knots  and a common cause of pain. Compression of a trigger point may elicit local tenderness, referred pain, or local twitch response. The local twitch response is not the same as a muscle spasm. This is because a muscle spasm refers to the entire muscle contracting whereas the local twitch response also refers to the entire muscle but only involves a small twitch, no contraction. The trigger point model states that unexplained pain frequently radiates from these points of local tenderness to broader areas, sometimes distant from the trigger point itself. Therapists have identified reliable referred pain patters, allowing us to associate pain in one location with trigger points elsewhere.

Deep Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue massage is designed to relieve severe tension in the muscle and the connective tissue or fascia. This type of massage focuses on the muscles located below the surface of the top muscles. Some techniques used in deep tissue are similar to that of Swedish except the protocols are applied with more pressure. On a pressure scale of 1 - 10 Deep tissue is applied at 7 -9 while Swedish is applied at 3 -6).   Deep tissue massage is often recommended for individuals who experience consistent pain, are involved in heavy physical activity, such as athletes, and patients who have sustained physical injury or tight knots.  When receiving deep tissue work it is important to communicate what you are feeling so they can adjust the pressure accordingly.

 Sports Massage
Sports massage is a combination of techniques that include deep tissue, trigger point, stretching and the application of aides as needed which could include hot packs, cold packs, essential oils etc. This type of massage is usually delivered to athletes, former atheltes, body builders, weight trainers and people from professional competitive fields. Most commonly, sports massage focuses on increasing blood and lymphatic fluid flow, reducing and eliminating pain as well as tender trigger points, and increasing range of motion of the affected area. It can be broken into 4 distinct types - the pre-event sports massage, the post-event sports massage, the restorative sports massage and the rehabilitative sports massage. As the names indicate, each type of sports massage has a different focus for the athlete as they are delivered at different times during their training and performance schedule.

Stone Massage
A stone massage uses cold or water-heated stones to apply pressure and heat to the body. The concentrated temperatures usually penetrates deeper than the regular hands and there is a more effective way of deeply relaxtion and restoring the muscles. Stones are coated in oil then applied to the skin. The stones can also be used by the therapist delivering various massaging strokes.  As the stones are placed along the recipient's back, they help to retain heat which then deeply penetrates into the muscles, releasing tension, knots and aches.

Cupping Therapy
Cupping Therapy is an ancient Chinese form of alternative medicine in which a local suction is created on the skin. At Massage and Unwind cupping is combined with massage to mobilize blood flow in order to promote healing. Suction is created using  a manual pump.

Lymphatic Drainage
Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) can be viewed as a type of manual detox. More specifically, it is a type of gentle massage which  encourages the natural drainage of the lymph from the tissues space body. The lymph system depends on intrinsic contractions of the smooth muscle cells in the walls of lymph vessels (peristalsis) and the movement of skeletal muscles to propel lymph through the vessels to lymph nodes and then beyond the lymph nodes to the lymph ducts which return lymph to the cardiovascular system. Manual lymph drainage uses a specific amount of pressure (less than 9 ounces per square inch) and rhythmic circular movements to stimulate lymph flow.

We typically encourage longer time for lymphatic sessions 90 mins to 2hrs so because the rhythm of the strokes used have to be applied in relatively slower motion for the best effect. A longer session will ensure that the entire body is done in a complete and thorough way.
